Artistik cimnastikte yetenek seçiminde dikkat edilecek antropometrik özellikler;

 

Genelde okullarda uygulanan ilk seçimdir 
İri bacaklı, cansız görünüşlü, donuk yüzlü ve vücudu orantısız olanlar seçilmez.  
Seçilecek çocuk kısa boylu, dar kalçalı, ince yapılı olmalıdır. 
Bacaklar, üst vücuda oranla uzun olmalıdır. 
Bacaklar topuklara doğru incelmelidir. 
Omurgada; kifoz, lordoz, skolyoz ya da tortikollis gibi patalojiler olmamalıdır. 
Diz ekleminde genu varum (O bacak), genu valgum (X bacak) ve Swayback diz olmamalıdır.

Gymnastics is a terrific sport for young people. Many people have grown up in and by gymnastics to become doctors, lawyers, teachers, business people, professors, police officers, nurses, scientists, and many others. Gymnastics provides an outstanding way for young people to test their mettle against themselves and others. Gymnastics can provide opportunities for physical development, character development, and education that are hard to find anywhere else.

Gymnastics training is osteogenic for bone development in children. While regular exercise is critically important to improve and maintain bone health throughout the life, early puberty seems to be the most sensitive period for maximizing bone mineral gain. Specific gymnastics activities are the most effective exercises to improve bone mineral gain in growing and maturing children. Recreational gymnastics is attainable by most children and does not require a high level of training, and already few hours of training per week have a positive influence on bone development.

Elite level or heavily involved female gymnasts may experience attenuated growth during their years of training and competition followed by catch-up growth during reduced training schedules or the months following retirement. Benefits Both parents and instructors emphasised the physical benefits of gymnastics including strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. They also stated there were benefits for the child’s confidence and self-esteem, while gymnastics participation aided social development. Parents and instructors valued that gymnastics was fun for children and not overly competitive – children proceeded and achieved according to their personal abilities. For parents there was significance in the pride and satisfaction of their child’s involvement and achievement, while some parents valued the social interaction with the club and other parents.

Spora başlama yaşına ilişkin elde edilen bulgularda 4 yaş ve altında spora başlayan katılımcıların ahlaki olgunluk düzeyleri diğer yaş gruplarına göre daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Sporun fiziksel gelişiminin yanında psikolojik, duygusal ve sosyolojik etkileri de göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, ailelerin çocuklara erken yaşta sporu teşvik etmeleri büyük önem taşımaktadır. Her yönden sağlıklı bireylerin oluşturduğu huzurlu bir toplumun tesisinde sporun önemli bir yer tuttuğu söylenebilir. Çocukların spora teşvikinde yalnızca ailelerin değil aynı zamanda devlet politikalarının, sivil toplum örgütlerinin ve kamu kuruluşlarının da etkin bir role sahip olmaları önemli bir gereklilik olarak ifade edilebilir.
